June 18, 2009. IBS Borlas has completed the deployment of a corporate information management system at “Severstal-Invest” Trading House. The new system replaced the metal-trading company's own IT-systems and is designed to optimise its principal business processes.
The project targeting one of Russia's largest metal-trading companies was launched in October 2007. IBS Borlas started out by analysing the “Severstal-Invest” Trading House's information management system, identified significant technological and functional limitations of the system software, and demonstrated it was impossible to upgrade and expand the functionality of the corporate IT-systems. The company managers realized that the old IT systems were no longer meeting the corporate business growth requirements and it was impossible to increase the sales without replacing the information systems.
The new system was designed on the basis of the Oracle E-Business Suite business applications. In particular, the project helped deploy the following applications: financial management (including accounting on the basis of international and Russian accounting standards), management of material flows, production management, personnel management, budget management, and reporting.
Sergey Khlevnyuk, the IBS Borlas Project Director, advised as follows: “The project was implemented in compliance with the approved schedule and budget. Furthermore, in the course of the project we successfully resolved a number of additional issues associated with modification of the “Sverstal-Invest” Trading House's business processes. The system encompasses the central office, the service metal centre, and the company's rolled metal and hardware warehouses. The regional subsidiaries are still using the old information system that has been fully integrated with Oracle E-Business Suite. The system is currently used by 240 people and the number of users will continue to grow”.
According to Dmitry Sytin, the “Severstal-Invest” Trading House Director of information technologies, “Ever since the single information system based on Oracle E-Business Suite was launched in operation all corporate subdivisions have been using it to manage finances, logistics, production, human resources, quality, and budgeting. A significant number of the corporate business processes have been standardised, material and financial flows have become transparent, cost management has become more effective, the time required to prepare and submit corporate, management, accounting, and tax reports has been significantly decreased. Thus, together with IBS Borlas, we created a platform for further progressive development of the Trading House's business”.
In future “Severstal-Invest” Trading House plans to connect its subsidiary information network to the system and upgrade its communication channels, install radio terminals, deploy bar-coding technologies at its warehouses and production facilities, automate the pricing management functions, and implement a customer satisfaction improvement project.
