April 24, 2008. Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK), which ranks among the world's top twenty steel makers, has received the CNews Award 2008 in the Efficient Industry category. The Award is for the e-trading facility project implemented by IBS based on Oracle software products.
The project won based on the result of direct e-voting by more than 250 CNews AWARDS 2008 ceremony participants from leading IT companies and IT departments of top Russian companies. The project received 38 per cent of the vote, while the two other nominated projects received 28 per cent and 26 per cent respectively.
Implementation of e-trading has enabled MMK to cut procurement organisation costs and reduce the procurement cycle, provide for justified selection of suppliers, expand the sales market and improve customer satisfaction.
Dmitry Kaplan, CIO of MMK, said: "More than 20 buyers registered and over 500 tons of metal products were sold in the two months of trial industrial operation of the MMK E-Trading Facility system alone. The outlook is that very soon sales through the E-Trading Facility will account for about 3 per cent of total sales to the domestic market and will rise further. Going forward, we plan to abandon hard copy document management as MMK customers switch to e-trading and an online system is deployed for auction trading in the most demanded products."
