March 26, 2008. IBS, Russia’s leading player in the IT and consulting market, has commenced building a unified automated retail management system for Lukomorye, a retail chain that sells children’s goods and is well known in St. Petersburg.
The project has emerged in response to the need of Lukomorye retail chain for a centralised, more feature-rich and scalable information system that would enable faster data collection and would generally improve business manageability.
IBS, which has prior experience with similar projects, including projects in St. Petersburg, was selected as the project contractor. The system will be built on IBS Retail, a proprietary retail chain solution based on Microsoft Dynamics NAV and Landsteinar Strengur’s LS Retail modules.
The project is expected to provide a fully integrated information environment spanning from the head office to in-store POS terminals. The functions to be automated as part of the project include:

Maintenance of the unified centralized reference data base

Product range management

Purchases and vendor payments management

Product storage and distribution between stores

Retail outlet management

POS-terminal transactions

Integration with the bookkeeping and tax accounting system

Integration with the bank-client system
A distributed architecture consisting of geographically dispersed databases will be implemented. The head office, the stores and POS terminals will use stand-alone databases. Procedures to be provided for data interchange between all databases will rule out system failures as there will be no connection between stores and the head office.
The system will encompass the company's head office and six stores including 24 POS terminals located in St. Petersburg, and will have approximately 30 users. This project started in February 2008 and is scheduled for completion within five months.
